I have a number of these and like to use them only on woven ties--that way I don't worry about causing any permanent damage to the tie.
I like to use them to add a little 'lift' to the tie, giving it a little more 'interest'.
Most of mine are inherited or thrifted with a few that I don't wear because they are a little loud.
A nice alternative to the tie bar.
