What is the point of a curtained waistband?

What is the benefit of having a curtained waistband? Are they supposed to make the front of the pants look better somehow?

I'm sure somebody can say that the curtained waistband makes the pants wear better or easier to alter to something like that.

I have them on some pants and honestly I do not notice any wearing differences between the curtained and non-curtained waistbands.

Curtained waistbands, however, do look "better" and more expensive. It is the pleated inner lining around the waist area of a pair of trousers.

Something to do with looking better when wearing suspenders perhaps?

There really is no point to a curtained waistband it is just the term used for the lining that finishes the interior side of the waistband. If it is a hand top or machine made it is still called a curtain. The purpose is to cover the internal materials of the waistband construction. Like curtains cover a window. Trouser that does not have a curtain type construction would be the way jeans are made with the cloth folded over. Same cloth on inside of waistband as outside.

An inner curtained waistband elegantly covers the seam work, helps enables the pockets to lie flat and reinforces the waistband. Yes, found mostly on high end trousers like Incotex, Kiton, some Brioni, etc.

Thanks. Here are photos of the inside of the waist of the Incotex I posted yesterday in WAYWN. From your descriptions, I gather the curtained waistband is the gray and slightly lighter colored part that covers the interior of the waistband.

In that case, what is the flap in the front called, and what its purpose. Because that's what I thought the curtain referred to.

FWIW, my guess is that it's intended to better align the two front ends of the trousers so that they don't meet at an angle and form a V. I guess I am wondering why that is important.

Incotex chinos (those depicted) usually do not have the curtained waist band. Mostly their dress trousers do - I'll try to photo some examples and post them later today, unless someone else beats me to it.

This is a french bearer.

A curtain waistband refers to the custom of certain tailors have an approximate three inch 'curtain' of lining beneath the waist band around the circumference of the trousers.

Yes. Here is an example of a pair that does not. I wore these here, though you can't make 'em out all that well.

What is? The part I referred to as the curtain (i.e., the mini-curtain), or the part I referred to as the flap? Edit: A Google search reveals that "french bearer" refers to the fastening "flap". I think "virginity protector" would have been an apt name.
