A nice well made fedora is never out of place, sir. I commend you for your passion to wear the hat even in the face of adversity.

As somewhat of an amateur psychologist, I would suggest that the people giving you sarcastic comments are merely insecure in their own style and identity and seeing someone confident in theirs causes them a great deal of anguish. They compensate for their own securities by trying to tear you down with hurtful comments. Be a brick fortress sir.

Stop, turn back a bit towards them (assuming they've passed) and say, "Finally, a woman with a good sense of style". That gives her a chance to stop and come back to you. If you want you can tack on "Where did you get your (whatever)". Again, that gives a chance for her to come to you. It won't work every time, but if she does, you're in.

    You're such a virgin.

+1. Sorry fredfred, but that would be awkward enough that I, as a bystander, would cringe.

Everybody who is complementing you is being sarcastic, or nice out of pity, so it doesn't matter how you respond. Stop being the kid wearing a Fedora.

I'll wear a fedora a couple times a week to work or out with friends. The first time or two friends will laugh and make comments, but they do the same if I'm in a sport coat. The typical guy thing of making fun of their friends who do something out of the norm. It usually stops pretty quickly when they figure out you don't care and the girls you're with and random ones give you sincere compliments. I wore a suit to a beer pong tourney a month ago as it was right after I got off work and didn't have time to change and wore a fedora to the beer pong tourney last weekend. My guy friends all started making jokes both times. Those jokes stopped when the girls started showing up with compliments and paying more attention to me than them. If you like it, wear it. Who gives a shit if others give you shit because they arent used to it.

Whenever I walk around with my fedora on, random strangers on the street are always telling me "Nice hat!" all the time. Often they will shout this at me from ~20 feet away.

Sometimes women will say it to me after they have already passed me.

I would like to know what the most stylish social response to being told "Nice hat!" is.

Normally I just say "thank you" but that seems very cliche, and even worse, it doesn't help me keep in touch with the women who have told me "Nice hat!"

Thank you for any insights you can provide regarding this question.

How in the world is "Thank you" too cliche? And more importantly, what's the weather like on Mars?

Spoken as only a gay man could. Have you ever actually spoken to someone with a vagina?

"Thank you: it keeps the wimmenz eyes away from my massive cawk"

Only someone with penis issues would say this.

    "Nice head"

This made me chuckle. *golf clap*

    Geez, what a fucking weiner.

This is almost as bad as fredfred. Why don't you guys hit puberty before chucking out pick-up advice you learned from porn you've seen.

    My 2 cents:

"Thanks, nice head" and "Thanks, nice tits" are winner.

    BARTENDER: I like your hat.
PETER BRETTER: Thanks. My girlfriend bought it for me.
    BARTENDER: I'm fucking with you.

In all seriousness, if you like the way the hat looks, there are only two correct responses: "thank you" or "yes, it is." Go with whichever fits the situation better.

If a man says it, point to an attractive woman and say, "Hat's what she said."

If a woman says it, same thing but you point to a more attractive woman.
