What is the best way to store ties in a small space ?

Hi,

I have two hangers full of ties but cannot store these anymore vertically. Due to lack of space I'm looking for some box or any other storage which could hold ~50-70 ties.

Any idea is welcome, but please focus on inexpensive options. I do not want to spend $300 on a box...

Thanks for your help :)

In the past I've either loosely rolled them up and stuck them in a box. I had a nice leather box that could fit 2 ties x 10 ties and then I could stack on top of that, then I just stuck the box in my closet. Not very easy to go through and find a specific one though. Alternatively, you can grab one of those under-bed storage boxes and lay them flat and stack. You can probably fit 5 rows about 10 ties high with a big enough box. It's a little easier to find what you want this way too, as you can grab a tie and only disturb one row.

One option is to roll them and place in a drawer or box or on a shelf.

Buy an 8' 4x1 from Home Depot and doll rods. Make two 4' boards from the 4x1 or buy more of them and make them any length you want. Cut the doll rods in appropriate lengths according to how wide you want this to be. Drill holes in 4x1 and insert the doll rods like you are making a ladder. Hang this on the inside of the closet door, on the wall or lean against a wall. Hang all your ties from the rods. The ones I made are longer and you can hang a bunch of ties and see them all.

Just noticed you are in Switzerland, forget the Home Depot reference. That's a hardware type store in the US, probably not in your country.

Thanks for your replys guys :)

I really like the Home Depot idea (we have similar stores here). If I find the time, I'll build one, but the best would be to find something already made.
Don't hesitate to post links to an online shop offering cheap tie boxes with drawers.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
