Ive a suede pair of boat shoes. I dont know whether they suit me and i hardly ever wear them. I just feel they might come in handy one day. Maybe when im on a boat someday. And im sure i will be.

I have to agree with the OP, I don't get the allure of these, but to each his own.

I like them because: They look awesome, you can wear them with no socks, they are very comfortable, they are light weight, and they are a just classic shoe.

I still mentally associate them with guys from the 80's in pastel polo shirts, khaki shorts and some sort of bright-colored sunglasses. They do look good on some people though I haven't tried a pair on so I can't comment on how they look on me.

I wear them on my boat, so that I don't slip on the decks or mark them up. Plus I can slip them on and off easily and don't have to wear socks, which tend to get wet on the boat.

They are easier on your feet than flip-flops,classic,easy,and after 4 years mine look about like they did out of the box.

Boat shoes are classics among the preppy set, but I think its time as a "trendy" item will be coming to a close quite soon. Every brah and their mom is wearing it nowadays, and most of them don't pull it off quite right. It's hard to put my finger on it ... boat shoes look best disheveled in that casual, East Coast preppy manner, but I see it being worn brand spanking new by urban hipsters with tight shirts and jeans, and it looks way too affected.

FYI, this was discussed quite thoroughly a month ago: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...ou+don%27t+buy

Thats the point- they look much better old. Unfortunately old takes so long. Although it happens exasperatingly quickly.
