What is so bad about Windsor knots?

Because James Bond believes that a man who wears a Windsor knot is a cad and can't be trusted.

^ is the only ready reference I can find, but if you've read 'From Russia with Love' he quite clearly makes the statement in that book.

They just usually result in a knot bigger than I like.

I never understood this either. I occasionally have better luck with a half windsor. Depends on the collar and the tie.

I prefer the full windsor as well. However, I think part of it really depends on the tie. The knot is a lot bigger (almost comical) with some Talbott Best of Class ties I have compared to the J Press Ties. With the J Press ties, I think the full windsor looks good.

I've noticed this too but still can't give it up. I always wear the full windsor.

I used to like the Windsor, but thanks to Ari Gold, every douche bag wannabe wears a fat Windsor which is usually 3x too thick.

For me, it's a balance between collar spread, tie thickness, and tie width. Lapel width factors in, theoretically, but most my jackets have pretty much the same lapel width. But I'll use any knots it takes to get the right look...

they look great with cutaways.

you can stop wearing them because a fictional character didnt like them, or continue to wear them when situationally appropriate.

Except for one instance that I can remember, yours look good. IIRC there was one that just looked too big, relevant to the the collar and surrounds. Keep on keepin' on.

For me, it's two reasons, actually 3....

1) A windsor takes up more cloth which results in a tie that falls somewhere around my belly button. I'm 6'2" and I'm not buying bespoke any time soon.

2) I'm also SKINNY. The knot would dominate my neck area. I wear TaT suits with smaller lapels..the proportions would be all off.

3) I happen to think that an asymmetrical knot has a bit more character than the triangle a windsor creates.
