So... I've been wandering, we have all kinds of Denim brands, everything from mainstream like N&F, APC, LVC, Nudie, Simon, Miller, RRL, Seven, J Brand, Tellason etc etc to hardcore like Samurai, Eternal, Iron Heart, Somet, PBJ, Flat Head, Full Count, Kapital, etc. etc.

The basic fabric and structure of the 5 pocket generally remains the same with special attention to stitching, details, trims, etc.

With regard to main stream denim, what do you think is missing in the world of the "mainstream" denim? What would you like to see new?

For example, like something totally different that N&F or APC doesn't offer now - not just selvedge or selvedge pockets... but something totally different like a design tweek, a special quality of fabric (stretch or super rigid or like the new hyper raw that fades extremely fast from Hudson)... Let me know!!! I'm very curious to hear your responses!

How about selvedge denim with zipper fly rather than the predominant button fly?

If you look at BiG / BlueOwl's sites, there are a handful of repro models with a zip fly.
    Stretch exists. Super stretch exists.
Fast fading / non fading exist.
Blended fabrics exist (sugarcane, silk, hemp, etc.).
    Epaulet makes slacks in denim.

I have raw selvedge 514s with a zipper fly. They're actually sweet, but I blew out the crotch.

I appreciate all the responses gents!!! Tailor - that's something new and fresh... especially with the excess fabric left over with the selvedge seem left over from cutting.

How about something more specific like major design details on the outside? outside selvedge pocket?? yay nay?

    Any other ideas gents?

Honestly I think the design of the denim jean has pinnacled a century ago. There have been additions like extra pockets, cinches, selvedge detail, pocket flaps, pocket designs of all sorts, distressing... But everything proved to be a fad.

there is no excess fabric, it takes an extra half yard.

how about selvage on the outside?
    colored, patterned front pocket bags.
inside back pockets, the opening in the yoke seam.
wide belt loops, or no loops.
bottoms fitted to fit in the top of boots.

I don't like the Naked&Famous cuts but I've got to hand it to them when it comes to experimenting with fabrics... they've done some REALLY cool stuff like flannel, 32oz, glow in the dark, army print, red/black dye, etc

I had them for 2+ years of pretty heavy wear on what was on the lighter side of mid-weight cloth. It was bound to happen.

The crazy N&F fabrics are hit and miss, but at least they're doing cool stuff. The red wefts, elephants, and Frankensteins all look sweet.
