What is it about a suit that makes someone look like a "drone"?

I hear people making snide comments about how the majority of the people in their office look like office "drones".

What is it about a suit that makes a person look like a "drone"?

When they're company issue and all employees are wearing exactly same corporate suit, shirt and tie...e.g. bank tellers.

I've never gotten it. The blue-button down/polo and khakis crowd look more like drones to me. You could place them in thousands of workplaces and they'd fit in fine.

I'd say it happens when the suit wears the person, rather than otherwise. Also, solid satin ties.

And another 'this' ^

Walk through any airport and you won't see many suits being worn, neither well nor badly, but you are likely to see scores of business travelers in the uniform of the unimaginative: light blue BB style button down or corporate polo with sleeves down to the elbows, baggy pleated khakis and either loafers or those hybrid shoe-sneakers made by the likes of Ecco or Skechers. Add a ballistic nylon computer satchel (came free from the annual conference) for the final touch!

I thought those were clones.

Unless your office strictly follows a uniform, you might be mistaken for a drone.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
