What is Borrelli Royal Collection? (...or the $650 Borrelli shirt!?!?)

I went into Wilkes the other day to pick up a few items from their mid-year sale. I pulled out a very nice looking Borrelli shirt in size 40, and then just about collapsed when I saw the price...$650, basically double the others. By far the most expensive shirt I have ever seen from this maker. The salesperson couldn't tell me why it was so expensive. Needless to say, even at 50% off, I passed.
The only difference I could see was the label that said royal collection. Any info on this?

It all about fabrications. The Royal Collection only uses the highest end 200 count fabrcis from Riva and other top end makers.

They must range in price quite wildly - the Royals at my local Borrelli retailer were in the $500-$550 range. Very nice fabric, without a doubt.

Where were the sale items? I toured the store and the only thing I saw were the usual 40 poorly dressed vultures looking (and acting) like used car salesman ready to shove any garment in the place down your pocketbook.

There were some beautiful Kiton's downstairs (at full bore) but in fabrics way to heavy for an Az resident. I was also disappointed that JM Weston's were no longer available.

I think that they are 140s and up.

How do these Borrelli's stack up against Kiton given that they will be in the same price point?

I was in there yesterday and I agree with your assessment of the staff. The on-sale shoe selection was very disappointing. There were a few trousers on the fourth (third?) floor that were good deals, although I didn't purchase anything.

Sounds right - thanks for the info.

I prefer Borrelli shirts over those by Kiton. My rtw Kitons have collars that are a bit too floppy for my taste while the Borrellis are always just right. I'm not crazy about Kiton's shirt buttons. Both have lots of handwork if that is important to you.

How long is the sale going on at Wilkes? What are the markdowns?

This was the last weekend of the sale but it will run through Tuesday or Wednesday. Markdowns are 40-60% on select items.

Thanks for the replies; I figured the cost was due to the fabric, but the salesperson could not even tell me that.
As to the sale, I was in the PA store. During sale time it is usually more quiet, and although they may start out with less stuff, it stays around for longer.
As to the salespeople, I find both the PA and SF stores to be hit or miss. This time I was actually pretty annoyed after I walked in to find 5 salespeople chatting around the front register, none of whom bothered to greet me. Then, it was another 20min before someone finally came over and offered assistance. N.B. the store was completely empty. To his credit, the guy that finally helped me was pretty good.

I go into the Palo Alto store about twice a year to check out the sales. (It's the only time I can afford anything from Wilkes) I agree that often I am ignored or looked upon with distain. But there is one clerk, I believe his name is Peter, who always treats me with courtesy and respect. He is a real gentleman.

You know there a royal collection Borrelli shirt on sale on YOOX at this moment that is marked up cheaper than the normal ones.
