Loden wool, woven in Tirol for centuries, is known for its resistance to cold and wetness. Our project in collaboration with Epaulet introduces Alpine Loden, a modern 18oz fabric blend of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon, woven in Italy. It's lighter, more durable, wind-resistant, and more comfortable than traditional Loden fabric. Partnering with Rochester Tailored Clothing, we offer custom garments like sportcoats, suits, and overcoats, made to your specifications. Learn more about the Loden collection here.

This basic debate rages on indefinitely.

Goodyear construction can be readily resoled and is thus considered by many to the best ready to wear construction.

Blake can be resoled by repair shops that have the right equipment but these are not so widespread and Black construction in general can be less moisture proof than goodyear.

Blake rapid can be resoled just like goodyear and some prefer it to goodyear as it constructed differently and some consider this difference to be stronger than goodyear.

Bologna is very soft and flexible but is generally not used for shoes that are going to get a lot of hard wear as it is most appropriate for single soled shoes that focus on comfort more than durability.

Then is there any way upon close inspection to figure out which is which in terms of construction..and would you say that in terms of quality it would be (1) Good Year (2) Blake Rapid (3) Blake (4) Bologna? and are there any other methods outside of these four? Do any of those four methods involve gluing the sole on? I have so many questions.. I did a search and found some info he and there but nothing that was concise and straight forward.

I always look at the following:

1) Good year. I tried to look for the welt and stitching around the shoe.
2) Blake/rapid. There is stitching around the shoe (looks like welted) but also inside of the shoe.
3) Blake: There is stitching inside of the shoe
4) Bologna: There is stitching inside of the shoe but it very close to the edge of the shoe.

I know that this is very basic and quite intuitive but it works for me.

Regarding the quality, Everybody defends Goodyear as the best construction but I must admit that the best shoes I ever had were Blake/rapid. On the other hand the most comfortable shoes I have ever used were bologna constructed.
