I want one all of a sudden.. don't ask.

What do you usually wear one with? Lounge pants + shirt + ascot + velvet slippers + pipe + scotch?

Oh yeah, and who makes good, well-priced ones? (definitely less than a thousand)

Ive always liked smoking jackets. I think they are usually worn with a shirt and ascot not sure about what type of pants or footwear but i imagine its something somewhat casual

The smoking jacket remains a popular alternative to the traditional black-tie coat. Mostly made of colored velvet in a dark hue of colors such as of green, violet, burgundy and blue. The classic smoking jacket model is double-breasted with frog closures in place of buttons and has a self-faced shawl collar. Tuxedo jackets made of velvet are also referred to as smoking jackets by British haberdashers.

It is something to wear at home or at the club. A scotch and/or cigar are essential.

Some might consider wearing it at a black tie dinner party at home, but it shouldn't be worn outside of private circles. Smoking jackets are NOT Tuxedoes/dinner jackets - at least no more than dressing gowns are.

Yeah I am definitely not planning to wear it to a formal party.

More like something I can wear when I am hanging out at my house smoking cigars with a couple friends... Just something that seems luxurious and hedonistic, in a classy way. But yeah, doesn't seem like that would work with tuxedo-style pants in that situation, needs something different.

You can get a real nice one from Brooks Brothers around Christmas holidays. If I remember correctly, it's about $950.

One very important accessory is a nearly nude, well-endowed, curvacious woman by your side.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
