Almost every piece of clothing has a CA number (e.g. CA 00935). I've heard somewhere that CA stands for Consumer Affairs. What exactly is that and what does it signify?

The CA number is our version of the RN number. it is designed to be able to track an item back to its maker. There has been a great deal of "blurring of the lines" in recent years. Go to Holts and look a suit by Burberry and the CA number tracks back to Holts. Holts was the importer, not the garment maker. It is getting to the point where the system is almost useless. ie: You should be able to look at the CA number on a Harry Rosen house brand shirt and find out if it is a Coppley or a Royal etc etc. You can track the CA numbers on the Fed's Industry Can web site. You will have to look around, I do not seem to find the bookmark for the page at the moment. http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/ic1.nsf...l?OpenDocument
