Hey guys... i know there is nothing wrong with giving jeans a soak to strengthen the denim.. i don't want to go through the breaking in phase so often though.. what if i just soak the crotch area to strengthen it? Fades will only occur once a real wash with laundry detergent is used, right?

Didn't you just get the jeans? I wouldn't worry about the crotch ripping unless you're doing splits or playing soccer or something in them.

Accidents happen, I'm sure the jeans will be fine, you don't have to be shy, just tell us what really happened

Why are you so worried about crotch rips?

Be careful. If the water is too cold, you'll get shrinkage.

Its a valid question, though I don't know if there is a valid answer.

Exploding crotch is very common if you are wearing unwashed denim, and super tight on top of that.

The problem with soaking a localized area is that you need to really soak it, like submerge. Dabbing it with water and then drying it again is not enough. Submerging just the crotch for a good 30 min while keeping the rest dry is near impossible.

Still, it cant do any harm, try it. If its not enough, you will have to decide on whether to soak the whole thing, or not at all.

I was under the impression hot water caused more shrinkage than cold.

He's talking about flesh, not cotton.

Soaking doesn't strengthen the denim...

Right?

And fades will happen with wear. Washing will make the fades more apparent because it'll take out the indigo that was already loose, and take more indigo out because of abrasion.
