what's the skinny/history on Common Projects? Trying to figure out what warrents the high price tag.

The leather is really supple, the construction is good (although ime, soles, and not uppers, wear out on sneakers, and no amount of construction will toughen up rubber soles), and the designs are very nice. But let's face it, you are paying for the exlusivity - the very subtle branding is designed to appeal to the whole "stealth wealth" thing.

^^I really like those shoes. Once you hold them in your hand (I haven't even tried them on b/c I know I will buy them) you will realize why they are so much. I really enjoy looking at them b/c they are so simple yet effective. High quality leather/construction and minimalist style equals win/win for me. I've actually been looking for super plain shoes and those fit the bill nicely. Ryan at sw said they're like old man shoes, super comfortable and no comparison to chucks which he's worn his whole life.

I'm going to take this opportunity to whore Common Projects for the millionth time on this board: Best. Sneakers. Ever. The only sneakers I'll wear now as they really spoil you on anything else. Have the Achilles low in all three colorways and I'm dying to get the new high-top (don't know the name, but it's not the Achilles high).
i still don't understand this one. i mean yeah they are a pair of nice simple shoes. i'm pretty comfortable with expensive footwear but i don't see why the extraordinate price tag is warranted. i don't really like the print on the heel of the shoe either. maybe if i tried a pair on i'd like them, but i didn't even bother after looking at the price tag. i think my pair of helmut lang shoes that i got for $70 are equally as nice if not nicer. but yes this is coming from someone who likes some of visvim's shoes, cdiem, and such.

I was going to say what do you mean extraordinary holmes. They're 245 in LA, a fair price for high quality and exclusivity.

Pretty much..and most of the time it looks bad. He should take a few lessons from MilSpex about how to wear baggy clothes.

So, it’s a rainy day, and fall is here, so it’s is a great day to chill out in comfort. For me, that means a n impeccably designed, deceptively simple hoodie, a pair of great jeans, a belt perfect for the fall, and classic shoes. I’ll start off with a piece that I actually own. Well, not yet. It came from Odin NYC, 2 days after I ordered it (they are a real class act – great service, prompt delivery). They have no webstore, but the same hoodie is available in black at www.stevenalan.com $178. I got the heather grey version, as seen here. The ribbed detail at the shoulder (front and back) extending into a ribbed side panel is what really makes the piece here. I love that sort of subtle but well conceived and executed detail that differentiates the yeah from the meh. [IMG] I need a tee shirt. Since I am wearing a pretty light colored hoodie with very subtle detailing, I’ll use a graphic tee in a saturated color. Of the three cliches in graphic tees: crests, daggers, and skulls, I'll allow myself the pleasure of daggers. They are just cool. And both the pine shirt and blue print of this Quentin and Claude tee will look good against the light grey of the hoodie ($89 -20% from styleforum coupon at www.activeendeavors.com ) [IMG] I’ll pair that with something in the same vein as the hoodie – deceptively simple, but with great cut, denim, and construction. The famous 5EP Resin one wash lowdown bootcut jeans. $275 at www.oaknyc.com [IMG] I'll go with an interesting belt here. This Shane belt (well, the belt is really secondary to the resin buckle) by Brooks Salzawedel is also available at Odin NYC, which is a great store, as well as at www.ronherman.com , $175. It fits well with the part rock and roll, part country, all classic, spirit of 5EP jeans. And the graphic on the buckle says "Fall is here" like Neil Young's song "Harvest." [IMG] I'll wear these Clark suede desert boots (which only get better the harder they are worn) in keeping with the rest of the laidback and classic items. At $93.95 (c'mon, that's $94) at www.zappos.com, they are a bargain. [IMG]

Fall is pretty much here in Boston, which is nice, because I like to layer things, which gets sort of uncomfortable in the summer.

Anyway, I am psyched about the new W+H line, and especially about this shawl collar sweatshirt that Brian at Peasant LLC is going to get to my grubby hands as soon as his stock comes in, right Brian? Anyway, $134 at Peasant. Not yet online, but look for it, and also available at Nomad in Toronto and Non de Guerre in NYC for about $145. Not sure who else is carrying it. American Rag CIE in LA only had an XL left as of yesterday. No one in L.A. will get to wear that before late December...

One of the annoying things about not living in NYC is that you don't get to see all of the stuff APC actually has, although Stel's carries a fair bit of it in Boston. Some pieces not on the APC website are available at www.azaleasf.com though, and I like this black hooded vest to go over my sweatshirt, shawl collar thing. Keeps me warm, but not overheated, in early fall, and prevents to much bulk in the arms. $202 (-15% with styleforum coupon).

Kenzo Minami makes awesome Tees, but they are $150+. Um, for a teeshirt, that's a fair chunk of change. Luckily, (and I have this tee, although it's getting a little tattered) www.Breakbeatscience.com does some awesome collabs, and you can get this, that Kenzo designed a few years ago, for just $10.

I won't lie. I love my 5EP bootcuts. I've used these before, but, here they are again. $275 at www.oaknyc.com, which is a cool site with cool stuff (check out the Nicholas K and Opening Ceremony hoodies) from a cool Brick and Mortar who opened a second shop in Manhattan. AFAIK, Famous Friends also carries them still.

I really like belts, and this George wooden buckle belt really does it for me. I like the Americana thing, Brown is for farmer good. $165 at www.scoopnyc.com

I like my Clark Desert boots, but these John Varvatos desert boots are better made, and more comfortable. Apparently, $200 more comfortable, at $295 a www.bluebee.com (men's section).
