What happens when something bought online comes with security tags?

You can get away with tearing it apart with your hands or a screwdriver, too. It's still not advisable. There are far better ways to do it with far less risk of destroying what they're attached to.

I have had success with a pair of pliers and some patience. Twist gently until the metal pin snaps in half. It takes a few minutes but you can do it carefully and not damage the garment.

Also, if you are friendly with any sales people at a local store they might be willing to help you. Particularly if they do not sell the brands you are bringing to them.

I used to run into this problem at one of my previous jobs. I had a clothing allowance and used to have one of our stores send me merchandise. More than once I received an item with the sensor still on it. I used the 2 methods above with great success.

The "gator" style aren't hard to remove, you just have to know how to do it. You need two pairs of pliers, and it is really useful to have someone help you. You grip on both sides of the pin (large side of the "tag") with the pliers (you have to catch the metal inside part, not just the plastic) and bow it downward. Bow it the other way and it will not work. When it is bowed you pull on the other side and it will come apart, that is where someone helping you comes in handy.

Usually with a shipment of clearance items from major dept stores a few will still have security tags that were missed. These can go home with you, a major annoyance, if they are not the same sort used by store selling the past season goods (therefore not triggering any alarms/sensors) and they also miss them...

Please, nobody use this for nefarious purposes! Also, I wouldn't try this with the ink-type tags.

yeah, needlenose pliers and some of those very small clipper tin snip wire cutter things coupled with patience, caution and dexterity should get you through. worked for me in my younger and more boisterous days. ink tags or just the beeper ones?
