Standardized tests are all over the world. Don't know why people get some bent out of shape for them. Take the fucking test, pass it and never look back.

Kids in America have to appease on the hand the crowd of people who really truly believe that scoring high in SATS and going to a presigious uni is the only means of survival today and on the other hand the hordes of people who think kids should be more like Huckleberry Finn.

So they end up bad at both.

Education spending has gone through the roof.. it isn't underfunded at all.

I went to a private school through 6th grade where funding was even less. It was a very small private school, and teachers made less than the public school teachers. When I transferred to a public school, I had to retake pre-algebra and algebra. Not because I didn't know it, but because the school district wouldn't let me take 9th grade math in 7th grade like a private school would.

Those standardized tests are painfully easy. I found some samples online yesterday when I first read this article. The 10th grade ones are simple word problems, do you know the equation of a line, etc.

You want to know why kids do bad? Look at the kids who go to college for teaching. I had a lot of dormmates who were teaching majors. Their math classes were a joke, and they hated math. How can they inspire kids to love math or to do well in it if they don't understand or appreciate it?

no offense, but that sounds like bullshit. has anyone here recently looked at the questions on standardizes tests? the english sections are so incredibly basic that 60% is pretty pathetic for virtually any adult.

LAWL, I was a big vocabulary geek back in the day, and it started really early. No jargon was too recondite for me, although I eventually relented and started speaking Texan to avoid the blank stares.

And, FWIW, I see my son struggle with basic grammar and spelling and it Just. Kills. Me.

Anyways, in school kids take lots of standardized tests yet most here seem to think that the system is somehow broken. Propose ways to fix it
