What happened to this lapel style?

Gone the way of the dodo? I don't see how it is functional in any way, yet I do believe it was standard on hacking jackets for some time.

I believe it was the French Revolution that did away with that one.

There are some very interesting historical lapel styles esp. around the Georgian/Regency eras; god knows how they all evolved, but I'd also be interested to know.

I quite like the so-called "lark's tongue" style, with both a upwards peak and a downwards swoop either side of the lapel notch, creating a funky overlap.
