It calls out to my inner economist i suppose. I think Tom Keene on Bloomberg Surveillance Midday looks good for example, among many others. Does everyone look good? Nope, but there are people who can manage to look like Hell in a charcoal suit.

I used to wear denim jacket back in the '80s but now I wouldn't be caught dead in it.

I've never liked them except with a dinner jacket. I hate them on myself, and rarely see someone else who looks good wearing one.

It takes a certain whimsical attitude to be able to pull bow ties off. There's only one person that I know who can and he's a senior manager at my company who on casual Fridays would wear polka dot bow ties with red jackets or other fairly loud clothing and it fits very well with his character.

They never went away, they remain a staple of casual menswear year on year, like a spring summer autumn version of the pea coat. Maybe a little less common recently due to the whims of fashion, or maybe you stopped wearing yours when you joined this site and stepped up your clothes game?

Also the ridicule of the Canadian tuxedo look makes it hard to pair them up as there is a formality gap if you wear most chinos or wool strides. Maybe cords?

Why?
To do a Brokeback mountain reenactment?

Lolol. I just think the denim jacket oozes Americana and that's why I have a soft spot for it.

Still wear one while on my motorcycle, when it is too warm for a leather jacker: feel naked without some sort of jacket protection, gloves etc. However, whatever jacket is worn, is removed while bike(s) are parked. Lost my Levi jacket from the 70's/80's and no one makes a denin jacket the way they used to be make.

Denim jackets are quite popular with the cowboys of Inner Mongolia as well. The US has Marlboro Man, we have Xilinhot Man.

I've actually thought about getting one for wearing on my motorcycle... that might be just enough of an excuse to wear one.
