My wife (to be) tends to prefer vintage clothes or classically tailored stuff. She has curves so stuff from a previous generation tends to fit her very well.

She has a few items I hate (and she knows I hate that pea-coat), but I very much like the way she dresses.

I've got nothing on my girlfriend. I can't even compare. Then again, fashion/style is more than a hobby to her.. she's made a career out of it.

For those of you who dress better or spend more on clothes than your partner, how do you reconcile your obvious desire to be well (or very well) turned out with her apparent indifference or lesser enthusiasm for that effect? Do you ever feel guilty for your heightened sense of vanity, or do you ever feel that she's not keeping up her end of the team (especially, for example, if you're out somewhere where most other women are exuding a high level of polish (more akin to your style than your partner)?

Also, do you find yopurself more attracted to women who dress more on your level, or women who are less concerned with (or less obsessed with) high fashion?

I've said this before elsewhere, but my wife's subdued taste in clothing allows me to shine.

Before what audience and to what end?

My girlfriend has a good eye for clothing. I throw out some tie /shirt coat combinations and she takes over. She now comes over and will say things like, "this guy at the office has the worst shoes" etc, picking the outfit apart...she needs to be posting here[IMG] She's cool and she drives a mini.

my fiancee is *almost* as obsessed with her own style as I am. She mixes 50s rockabilly and 60s mod, a mix of Audrey Hepburn with Jean Seberg and a dash of Yvonne Lime. Her downfall are Kate Spade purses, Lulu Guinness shoes, repros of 1950s shoes and Anthropologie. My biggest influence in her purchases is showing her the greatness of Paul Smith's women line and Nudie jeans. we mesh well because we're both serious disciples of the church of Narcissism.
I'm thinking I may have stood in line behind GetSmart at Anthropolgie on Xmases past. My wife tends to mix-and-match elements from J. Crew preppy and skater/surfer culture.

Those are the deep questions that I don't have the capacity to answer, but I'll take a stab at it. audience: -my mind's eye (?) -the "other" -surveillance cameras -would be mistresses/misters that I would derive pleasure in turning away -unidentified internet fashion peers end: -fame? -ego gratification in catching eyes that I subsequently deflect I dunno. Tough questions.

My wife uses a variety of labels but she goes for a classic businesswoman look for her real estate career. She like Thomas Pink shirts a lot and loves shoes but she buys moderately priced shoes but in quantity. I think women have much different ideas about shoes than men.

In any event, she always looks great. [IMG]

My wife very carefully edits current fashion and only dresses in fashion. She has a closet of old Chanel, YSL, etc that she no longer wear because it's no longer in fashion.

I dont have a wife, and if I did, she'd be naked all the time. Or dressed all slutty for me.

Maybe thats why I'm not married. Unrealistic expectations.

    marriage lesson #1:

if you dislike the sensation of one's partner's palm across your cheek, do not under any circumstances buy a crotchless pvc bodysuit and insist she wears it.
