Nothing quite like a private discussion in public. Whats amazing is that I have translated this on one of the generic translation sites and still cant make heads or tails out of it. [IMG]

F: oh Ernest, what about us, are we through?
E: you are spoken for (prises).
F: in the sense of 'electric', yes (a play on the word "prises" (=connection) that I don't quite get)

Yeah I didn't get the electric thing either. I guess I have to brush up on my French, I seem to be losing it.

Just forget it, my stupid play on words. I hope it made Ernest smile, at least.

As Fabienne said, it's just a play on words. French speakers (from France) do this a fair bit, analogous to the English use of puns. It's often used to mock gently. For example, if, in a fun argument, one person says "hien?", the other might say "deux". Obviously, in this case, the "Electrique" was just Fabienne's play on the phrase "prise electrique".

"enjoy spending time with a few shirts who have proved to be intelligent, hilarious, and supportive purchases"

the complete incoherence of that sentence and the colourful take on the english language is hilarious...

I assume that most people on the board understand French at a very basic level, if at all, M. Baudelaire. It's "kindergarten" by the way.

As you are translating, they don't need to speak at all... Kindergarden = the level of your exemple of humour

    Weird... same result.

I think maybe there is only one answer. Or this forum attracts schitzotype personalities.
