I know the incotex brand is respected here, but what do you specifically look for in slacks?

with sport coats it is to see if it is full canvas, half canvas or fused.

ties is handmade or thicker material.

jeans they look for self edge/ raw unwashed.

I don't think you can reduce it to just that... People look for other things besides canvassing in suits.

For me, it's all about fit. A slim, but not too slim fit that hangs well and doesn't have a rise that's too low.

flat front, slightly lower rise than most off the rack trousers (to avoid the under-waistband creases), and 8.75" width at ankle.

Unfortunately, don't think I have found any that meet my 'requirements' just yet, as can't find tailored purple label in my area (or a VERY limited selection, if at all), nor does the zegna store carry Milano-model trousers (only the regular model/ cut, which is slightly too bulky to put with my newest duds)

Water-, stain- and wrinkle-resistance
Machine washable and dryable
Cut: tapered vs relaxed fit

That's important to me; bad trousers will flare out at the waist and look balloonish. A good trouser will hang properly and look slimmer. Also natural fabrics are better than man made though polyester has come a long way (don't flame me!)

After everything stated above, I look for decent texturing and patterns that will add to versatility.
I also look for little extras like hidden pockets and pouches within the main pockets.
Spare buttons is another little extra I like to see sewn on the inside.

Adding to the extras: expanding waist and shirt grippers.

I've always wondered this too. There is a ton of talk on here of what makes a good suit, shoe, shirt and such. But very little talk of what makes a good pair of trousers

I'm all for wrinkle resistent machine washable and dryable pants but what materials do you go for? I typically only see this in poly, poly blends, or cotton. I know of only 1 machine washable wool offering.

I'd really like to find fairly lightweight, lined, machine washable wool pants. Does this even exist?

+1, and 20 cm hem at most, preferrably 19-20 cm.
