Mayonaise it the secret ingredient that no burger should be without. Ketchup is the vile ingredient that no burger should suffer.

Mayo
Mustard (yellow or dijon)
Onion (paper thin slice)
Tomato (thin slice)
Iceberg lettuce (1 leaf)

My wife also is a believer in mayo on burgers. I put mayo on my hot dog buns but rarely on hamburgers.

Ketchup

Depending on my mood I might add iceberg lettuce and/or pickles.

I love a nice thick slice of tomato, some lettuce and thousand island dressing is a must! God that reminds me, I haven't had a burger in months.

WERD. my fiancee likes so much ketchup on her burger (and nothing else but a piece of lettuce) that it looks like a dying animal bleeding to death

My ultimate burger has:
1000 island (mayo if no 1000 avail)
lettuce
tomato
dill pickle
cheddar cheese
bacon
avocado

i thought we were only talking condiments, but if we are building a burger,

i definitely need a thick slice of cheddar, swiss, or american chees on it, not completely melted, only on the hot sizzling patty where the juices of the beef swirl in and around the melted cheese , but the edge squares got to be still stiff, but slightly glistening due to the nearby heat.

also a thick slice of raw onion. i dont know, lot of people i know dont like it, and some dont mind it but no one i know thoroughly enjoy a thick slice of FRESH raw onion. it just enhances the tastes and textures of the beef and bun.

also a beefsteak tomato slice really red and juicy is great too.

More burger. Do we have any Rutgers students that can grab a picture of a Fat Cat and post it? I can't find a good one on google.

My favorites, in order:

1) ketchup only, sometimes cheddar cheese as well
2) sauteed mushrooms and onions with swiss cheese
3) ketchup, pickles, lettuce, onion, tomato. Sometimes add cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or swiss).

I like my burgers cooked medium, with a little salt and a lot of black pepper. A bacon cheeseburger is great, too. I won't waste my fat allowance by using mayo on a burger.

I have a friend who maintains that burgers demand ketchup; hot dogs require mustard and the two should never be switched. I'm not that "dogmatic" and will sometimes eat mustard on my burgers. Burgers are too good to limit yourself to only a couple ways of preparing them.
