    Hey Guys,

I am looking for a spring jacket and was wondering if anyone could offer up some suggestions. Basically looking for something in a slim fit to wear with dress shirt and pants (not over a blazer or suit). I am not interested in a trench style coat. So does anyone have any suggestions of what they wear that might fit the bill? Budget would be < $700 if possible.

    Thanks

I'd suggest a field jacket, and this can range from the classic M-65 to the much more expensive designer versions. Personally I'd go for the M-65 because of the heritage, but this will look more "rugged" than the designer versions which may give you a better fit and smarter look.

For the designer versions, Mr Porter is a good place to start. For the M-65, ebay.

If you're still looking, you might also want to look at Baracuta- or Harrington-style jackets, like the Grenfell G9.

Why would you want to wear an (outerwear) jacket over a dress shirt? Is this for warmth or rain protection? Why can't you wear a light sport coat?

Dress pants and shirt + a field jacket or Harrington is not a good idea.

Think it depends what your spring is like? For me spring is 23-30C, no rain, so no spring jacket.

I've always been a fan of a shortish pea coat (or even a leather pea coat) with a dress shirt - something with a cut similar to a regular suit jacket

I'm all for the military style jacket for casual days and blazer when I'm wearing a dress shirt.
