For some reason, that is what's "in" right now. This was the case for a while at BMW, then for a while it wasn't. Now it is again. :shrug:
Reviews are not favorable in terms of the fun to drive factor. I won't be selling my '06 330i for it, for sure. And with thoughts of a turbo 4 in the 2013 3-series, I may have the best last N/A engine BMW made.

"BMW M discovered that the transmission would have to be beefed up with bigger actuators, which would slow down the transmission's response time. The only way it could have worked was with an extensive redo of the M DCT. So BMW's M division chose to go with the eight-speed manumatic only", says MotorTrend in their article.
