^^Funny!

I keep a pair of silk knots in my desk for this very problem. I learned my lesson a long time ago in the same situation (gym in the morning). For today, if you can get out to get a pair of silk knots do so (or take the opportunity to buy a nice new set), otherwise just suck it up. I'd say leave 'em be if you're wearing a suit or fold them back if you're doing business casual.

Why keep silk knots in your office desk? Wouldn't it be easier to just have an extra pair of cufflinks there? As for solving your current problem, I would use paper clips like you are now, and possibly make a joke about how you forgot your cufflinks at home when you enter your meeting (if suitable).

Currently, a full 50% of the cufflinks in my collection were purchased at hotel gift shops after I realized that I accidentally packed a french cuff shirt.

Charlie Rose does not need cuff links. Therefore you also do not need cuff links.

Because any cufflinks that I buy, I'd like to be able to wear relatively frequently, so I need them at home in the morning to get dressed.

MacGyver would use bubble gum and a thread of human hair to secure his cuffs. Otherwise, for us regular humans, some rescue silk knots or the paper clip and extra buttons trick is a good stop-gap measure.

Use a pair of scissors and a stapler to "convert" them to look like barrel cuffs.
