To my eye, the originally posted monkstrap is a more interesting shoe than these casuals.

I agree. I expected at least 50% of the members to like the original monkstrap. I'm suprised by the negative reactions.

Great looking shoe imo. Maybe it is a little busy, but that is what makes it different than most other monks.
