What do buy in New York?

I will be in New York next week and wondering what are sartorial must haves that are unique to New York. Not really interested in standard shirts, ties, suits or shoes as I can get them all bespoke in the tropics.

Couple of ideas I had were

Seersucker db jacket
Panama hat (for some reason Asian tropics don't have them)
Linen, Madras, tussah or shantung ties which are difficult to get here
Vintage Cufflinks- something I always try to pick up in London
Cordovans if I can find a good deal

Any thoughts on what I should add to the list? Any thoughts on the best places to go?

There are also several spots where you can get vintage cuff-links. There are thrift stores all around the city(ex. Orchard street in the lower east side has a cool spot.)

If I recall, Brooks Brothers is on the same block as Paul Stuart. If you don't have one where you are, you should take a look. Not the same quality as PS but some stuff on your list.

BB is just a block down and if you will be in the area you might as well check out Alden NY which is a block south of BB. Shell will probably not be on sale but worth the browse. If you're in the Village stop by Leffot since it's a chill store.

x100. This is one of the best stores that you can only access in New York and Chicago I believe and their online store isn't great comparatively. I'm going into Chicago next weekend and I plan to stop there as well.

Dear Lee. Seersucker and shantung are not standard items for bespoke where I live

The rest, many thanks for the suggestion. You are all very kind.

The Paul Stuart, Brooks Brothers and Alden triangle; along with a trip to Creed and Art of Shaving has always been part of my New York weekends and it is great to hear all of you confirm it.

Brooks Brothers have opened a store where I live, and if I were not acquainted with the one in New York, I would have dismissed them as the biggest charlatans in the world. Their international lines are cheap looking, poorly designed and over priced- more comparable to Polo Ralph Lauren.

I have bought shoes from Alden over they years, but interestingly my Crockett and Jones cordovans have developed a beautiful and rich patina while the Alden shoes have just developed a whitish plasticky sheen, and many more deep creases. Since both Have been maintained in the same household I wonder why that might be the case. One item on my agenda is to take the shoes to Alden and ask them for help.

The hat retailer and cufflink stores are new to me and very much looking forward to discovering them.

Anything I am missing on the list? Any hidden gems in terms what is genuinely unique in New York?

From your list of clothing, you could take a look at Billy Reid. The shop isn't close to Paul Stuart by any means, but I think Billy Reid's clothing has a southern tinge to it and could be up your alley.

Don't forget J Press (midtown like BB and PS). Usually a bit disappointing, but I try to make a pilgrimage there when I'm in that part of NY and every once in a while something catches my fancy.
