What do black cap-toes look good with (other than a suit)?

After learning a little more about shoes, it appears my collection is missing a pair of black balmoral cap-toes. However, I can't seem to pull the trigger on a pair. I find cap-toes to be very plain and don't know what I would wear them with other than a suit to a rather formal event (which is fairly rare for me). Clearly, when a cap-toe is needed, only a cap-toe will do. Help me pull the trigger by telling me what cap-toes look good with?

My day-to-day attire is fairly casual, typically dress slacks, an OCDB, no tie, and sometimes a sport coat. Cap-toes seem to be a little formal to blend well with casual clothing to me, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I see no problem with wearing cap toe oxfords with trousers, open collar shirt and an odd jacket. If you have a problem with it, that's really our own aesthetic call. I wear my own cap-toe shoes with pretty much everything from "business casual" to more formal suit and tie.

Balmorals for me are dress shoes that look best with suits. Accordingly, I wear my balmoral captoe and plain toe shoes with suits only, but wear my bluchers with both suits, odd jackets, and for casual wear.

I think they work well with grey trousers. I don't wear black pants but I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work well with those either.

I have worn my black calf, cap-toe boots with suits, as well as with more casual attire, including jeans, on several occasions. I agree with academe's perspective.

Today I'm wearing my black Martegani Sienas (plain captoe) with charcoal trou, scarlet cashmere v-neck and a blue and white gingham open-collare shirt.
