Sold the car and house, moved into a cardboard box in the alley, panhandle with a sign reading "Will dress well for money", and dumpster dive for food. It's a difficult life, but at least I look good.

If someone starts the 'No Purchase Club for 2011', I'll join, but I'm too weak to start the club.
Can't afford to go anywhere that's not free, so I dress like a flaming peacock when buying groceries or shoveling snow. I'm only a few purchases away from Twotone.

The wife and I hardly ever go out, but I'm not sure if its my clothing purchases, rather the over 2k a month we pay for day care. Any vacations we take are with the generosity of our folks who get some time with the gradkids while we get some time to hang out.

I don't give up anything. I try not to make big timer purchases on a small timer's income.

I cut back on drinking during the weekends. (~$100 a week?) This is for when I have to go back to the suburbs to run errands.

If i do this 2x a month, thats $200 saved that I can use toward adding to my wardrobe (I just started. got a long way to go)

I would go out tonight but... I spent all my money on stuff to wear?

If you are cutting back on buying other fairly frivolous stuff that's fine, a choice between buying some home entertainment kit or a suit for example. If buying clothes is stopping your from eating out, holidaying and so on, and you already have the essentials for your job and social life, then in my view you are spending too much on clothes. Buy less or buy cheaper.
Beyond a certain level experiences are worth more than material goods.

I buy few and better so it hasnt really impacted my other spending. I do however prefer to live without too many frivolous expenses. I'd rather invite everyone over than go to the bar and I'd rather cook at home than go out.
