    Salmon cakes (like crab cakes, but with salmon)

    Mixed sauteed veggies

    Foccaccia bread (onion)

    Bottle of 1995 Verget "Valmur" chablis (super "bargain bin" find at my local wine shop) (good God, I just looked up this wine and realized that Parker rated it 100 points - had I known that, I may have waited to open it. -- it was very good. I've got several of the 1996s and thought I'd better start with the one 1995 I had....)

    Ernest refuses to believe this after his experiences with us in Paris, but we celebrated St. Valentines Day, as always, at Johnny Rocket's -cheeseburbgers, "American" fries, and milk shakes.

    Sauteed lobster tails in butter
    Thin beef flank steak slices sauteed with garlic and fresh tomatoes over cappellini.

    Two spoiled bottles of 97 French wine (one mildewed, one showing a touch of carbonization), ended up with a cheaper but frank Italian Taurino.

    Top sirloin from the grill, soaked 24 hours in a teriyaki/southern comfort marinade, perfectly crusted over on the outside and juicy on the inside.

    Cherry Cream Pie

    Schloss Schonborn Beerauslese (dessert wine, sublime)

    Nice meal.

    Eggplant gratin with Louis Jadot 2002 Nuits St Georges. Mediocre. But at least it wasn't spoiled this time.

    We've had really bad luck with French wines at that particular store, so we're going to try a different one. However, does anybody know how wine is transported from Europe to the US? Something tells me the bottles don't withstand the voyage all that well.

    This varies quite a bit from importer to importer, I'm afraid. Two retail shops I know who are maniacal about transportation conditions (temperature controlled reefers) and storage are Moore Brothers in NJ, DE and soon NY, and Burgundy Wine Company, in NY. I've seen wines by the same importers at Gary's (northern New Jersey) and other places. Not sure where you are located...

    Chic pea spouts (raw). 4 days old.
    Essene bread (raw). (munched up two day old fermented wheat sprouts that are dried naturally under the sun).

    Sesame seed sprouts. (l only sprout them for 2 days).

    Weeds.

    Forgot about the dinner:

    My wife had:
    Mushroom ragout vol a vent
    Grilled buffalo steak, with a roquefort sauce, haricots vert, potatoes.
    I had:
    Arugula with goat cheese and croutons, truffle oil dressing
    Roasted sliced venison with Burgundy/rosemary reduction over whipped sweet potatoes, haricots vert, and spinach.

    Rochioli Russian River Pinot Noir 2000

    Carmelized pear souffle.

    Well, if that was for my post, I should mention the dinner was at one of favorite BYO's in Northern Chester county, outside of Philadelphia, about 15 mins from us. We're decent cooks, but we've never made two different appetizers and two different main courses for just us. Now to answer your question, Chris, anytime is fine - just bring some Grensons. [​IMG] [​IMG] and your sticks.

    My wife , the one who really knows how to cook is out of town.

    So I had 4 pieces of Fried Chicken from the grocery store and Coors Light. In hindsight I should have just shared my daughters dinner, pureed beef & vegetables and applesauce with strawberries for dessert. it most likely would have tasted better than mine.

    I grilled pork chops on the barbecue. Used Nature's Seasonings to spice them up and then grilled them for 7 minutes a side.

    Had them with some rice pilaf, brocolli and a glass of milk - delicious.

    I had the same for lunch today.
