    This-

And don't forget the ridiculous cash some are making off of "textbooks".
My wife (for her doctorate) recently had to by a required "text" that was nothing more than a self-published PDF file of about 60 pages. You don't want to know the price. :fu:

also, come to think about it, both my parents have been adjuncts at some point in their lives. Having a regular job and then teaching on the side is certainly possible.

(also, I don't like discussing or theorizing where one's money originates, I'll end it here)

That is outrageous. Some universities and even some states ban this practice.

I send your wife dissertation completion vibes.

interesting gomestar. the other night i was eating at [high priced restaurant] and i happened to sit next to a textbook manufacturer. she was a 30 year old brazilian super model and offered me a job as a private textbook and gave me her a number. the evening ended with a kiss on the cheek! i also got four extra courses of cavier, foie gras and champagne as the wait staff appreciated my palate.

cary grant -- that reminds me of another story. the other eve i was inquiring after the lineage of some mussels at my local farmer's market when i bumped into heidi klum. we shared a laugh at the undiscerning taste of the local homeless man -- he was eating a mcdouble! - and she gave me her card and a kiss on the cheek.

pio has a complex always wondering how/what other people can afford. maybe he started a company when he was young, made millions and teaches for his own fulfillment. that's what a highschool teacher that I had chose to do.

Yeah, I'd guess that an adjunct professor with lots of spending money either comes from family money or teaches courses in law, medicine, or business--i.e., he made his money as a professional and is adjuncting to take it easy.

I like how it went from criticizing mgm's food to the existence of mgm's dining companions.
