What did you do after the diploma was in your hand?

Just curious to see what everyone has to say...

My graduate school plans aren't panning out, and the depression is sinking in deep.

I've been too afraid to consider that I may have spent years studying something I have no passion for.

Total apathy towards the field, 25+ hr a week job and the aforementioned trepidation to make a big change resulted in a really shitty (sub-3.0) GPA. That, and the fact that I have no real research experience (not necessary at all in this field, but would have helped) and no employment in the field beyond superficial summer internships, made me a long-shot for grad school. I'm still waiting to hear back from half, but the first schools have been rejections - including the safest safety school.

I planned on using grad school to see if this field is what I really want to do, then either look for a private sector job or apply to professional school in another field accordingly. The M.S. degree would have been a big help in making either of those options possible.

Really didn't want this to turn into another bitch-and-moan thread. Just feeling profoundly blue about the consequences of my own dumbass actions. And since I may have to do something very un-planned, I'm genuinely curious about what the esteemed SFer did after 16th grade.

I got married a few months later, deferred my enrollment into law school, got a job working $15/hour in Indiana and lived a simple life. A year later I moved to my current location and began law school.

Interviewed for a job right before graduating and started working 3 weeks after. Been working since, about to be 2 years. I'd like more pay but the job market sucks and I'll have to move 500 miles and need 3 years experience before thinking of moving.

I've never actually seen my diploma. We got a dummy of sorts at graduation (big college) and the real one was mailed over the summer (after final semester grades were verified and all them get printed out). I was moving that summer so i had it mailed to my parent's house. I just trust my mom has it in a safe deposit box somewhere. I wonder what it looks like

Graduation day i took a bunch of awkward pictures, had a nice dinner with family and close friends at a restaurant, then drank and played beer pong with friends later

+1. Except mine is actually in the back seat of my car all crinkled up. That's okay though, as I imagine that piece of paper from a culinary school isn't quite as important as one from an actual institute of higher learning. [IMG]

I was fortunate that I was already working when I finished undergrad. My senior year was just at the "full time" limit (12 credits/semester I think, which is not much for undergrad. . . had been doing 18 and 21 credit semesters early on) and I worked the rest of the time.

I didn't even go to my own graduation (big school). I went to visit my parents that weekend, then it was right back to work on Monday.

Diploma? Are you supposed to get one of those after 6 years of school. I thought I paid all that money to drink beer and get tail. Oh well its just a piece of paper I guess.

Basically just stopped going to class, as I was already working at that point. Started grad school that fall, but eventually dropped out.
