I usually go to networking events, social events, wedding receptions, night outs to musicians, Etc. I go to events maybe three of four times a year but when I go, I want to look well dressed, look modern, sophisticated but fun. I am in my mid-30s and in tech. I was going to get two suits - I was thinking of two of the following colors: charcoal, medium gray, navy blue or blue. Which of these two would you suggest I get?

Also my complexion (because I have heard some colors look better on different complexions): south Asian (light to medium brown skin, black hair and yellow/warm undertone)

Charcoal and Navy Blue. Classic, easy to pair shirts and ties with, and won't go out of style.

Does charcoal or navy go with my skin complexion/type? Apologies for asking what may be a very obvious question. Also thanks for your help! I have been reading the forums for a year and just now brave enough to participate. I've learned so much from all of you. My confidence in what I wear has definitely increased thanks to the great advice and discussions.

I like navy blue for you, but perhaps instead of charcoal, you can go with medium grey. For me, charcoal can be very "business", and you won't be wearing your suits primarily for work. I suggested that you visit Gary Drinkwater already in a PM, and I would suggest it again. He tends towards a very conservative, East Coast Establishment style, but he has good knowledge, and can probably kit you out better in person the way you'd like better than we can here: http://drinkwaterscambridge.com/

Another vote for navy first and medium gray second. (So the first and third of the suits you included).

What is your price range? Those four suits were less than...inspiring...

as far as price range, looking around the $1k range (at most) right now. These were ~$700 - $800

Ah, for 7-800, you could do much better.

One place to start is Suit Supply. Their fabric quality is hit or miss (ranging from good to what you'd find in a Dillard's). Another possibility at around that range is MTM from Kent Wang. Depending on how comfortable you are with suits/jackets, that might be another option. Just starting out, ready to wear really is the safest bet.

thanks I will take a look there. When you say the "first one" and "third one". What file names are you referring to just so I am clear on color?

Charcoal and Navy Blue are certainly the most versatile, so probably a good bet to start there. Then when you're ready to expand your closet, pick up a gray one.

Thanks will get the gray. Out of the blue in the Dropbox link I shared - which blue? The dark navy or the blue? Apologies in advance if you feel you already answered his, I just want to to be doubly sure
