What color suede shoes?

I'm looking to add some suede shoes to my collection and am curious as to what color would be best to start with. I will primarily wear them with 4 pair of flannel trousers in the colors shown, which are a mid-gray, a charcoal, a slate blue, and a deep blue, but I will also occasionally wear them with jeans and other pants. I'm trying to decide if it would be best to go with a dark brown/chocolate color or a Polo/snuff color like those pictured (ignore the style), or if either would work equally well. I'm both sartorially challenged as well as borderline color blind, so any and all feedback is welcome. TIA.

Keep in mind that you usually want your shoes to be darker than your pants. You have some pretty dark colors there on the left. I would go for a dark brown.

Something in between those colors would work better.

Of the two you posted, I think I'd take the chocolate brown. You could always split the difference and go with a darkish shade of snuff also. I find it the most versatile colour of all the suedes I own.

I love the chocolate suede. I think you get away with wearing it with both the light and dark gray.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
