It looked like a better fitting suit than he normally wears and it was finished with a white shirt and bright blue tie. I'd say the suit was dark navy but it could've been dark charcoal. The show was a repeat from mid-April and yea, Letterman looked well turned out in a SB (which I much prefer on his frame to the DB).

Errors in judgment on his part. But it's hard to fault the suits themselves. I also think his ties are mostly pretty good.

BTW, I have nothing against light colored socks. I wore some today. I do, however, think they nearly always look silly with dark shoes and trousers.

I've been unpleasantly urprised with some of Letterman's suits when I've tuned into his show lately.
He's (IMO) always been a sharp dresser with a distinct personal style, but he was wearing some very gaudy, DBs that didn't really fit (him).
