What coats can you wear without a suit?

I'm for southern california and have never had to wear more than a sweater in mid winter. Now that I'm in the east coast, I'm not sure how to dress warm and fashionably. I bought a pea coat on my friend's recommendation, but that's probably not enough. I have a Calvin Klein jacket (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...eL._AA280_.jpg) but I don't know if that's something you can wear on a regular day or if it's more for winter sports.

I usually wear jeans and a lacoste sport shirt. What kind of coat kind I wear with that? I like the look over overcoats, but do I need to wear a suit underneath that?

Pea coat will be fine.

I live in Minnesota and I only have a pea coat.

I live in the northeast and I would agree that a pea coat is fine. I have a 3/4 length car coat and a 3/4 topcoat that I wear with sport jackets during the week. On weekends, it's a north face parka. I think my next purchase will be a sterlingwear pea.

The correct answer is, you need several jackets & 1-2 coats for east coast weather.
