The CL is essentially a two-door S-Class. The MB SL, the two-seater convertible, comes closer to the definition of a sportscar although I feel its driving dynamics are more in line with grand touring.

My personal definition is, say, a Porsche 911 for a sportscar and a CL600 for a luxury car.

Both are two-door coupes (and both have back seats, I might add), but obviously completely different from each other.

. Luxury cars are supposed to be quiet. And who said the MKS wasn't nice to drive? Like I said, STFU until you've actually driven one. It's a smooth, nice and comfortable ride. You don't feel any bumps of the road, and last I checked, that's nice to drive. You're a turd and really need to get off *******.

1) First of all, chill.
2) Secondly, if I can't read your mind, words are all I have to go by on this forum. I am just going by the first sentence of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxury_good to contrast luxury with necessity.
3) Who said OP wanted or needed a luxury car? Given, he has expressed interest in that Mercedes SUV. But I assumed from the mid-life crisis bit that quiet or reliable wasn't the top of priorities. Otherwise I would have suggested a (very boring) fully-loaded RX.

Back on topic - does OP live in a place where AWD is necessary? That could help us narrow down what you may want.

Well, yeah. I was saying that I drive an econobox for practical reasons, but douchebags will ridicule me for driving it instead of a BMW.

You can buy a CL 500 with only 55k? Many of the cars here in this thread I feel are at least 75k....

If I had to buy domestic...I'd buy two 2010 Camaros! If I had to buy European...probably M3 used or brand new 3 series coupe If I had to buy Japanese...probably G37 for sure. Give me $30-40 more grand and I'll get a GTR.

A friend of mine has an admirable phrase that my prove useful to you in such situations: "when a jackass speaks, only another jackass understands."

Well, that has more to do than what car a guy drives. I drove a stick shift Ford Ranger at one time, due to economic reasons. I tend not to care too much what other people think of me over things like this. For all I know, the DB looking down on me had his wife or momma buy that car for him.

Now, mess with my foie or wine?

I'd get a mid 90's black Lincoln Towncar and spend the rest of the money on a chauffeur.
