What can I do with this jacket?

I've had this RL jacket for some 20+ years. It's been repaired, taken in, and even had its lining replaced over that time. It's comfortable, but every time I wear it, it just seems bulky, and it's more than the heavy fabric that creates this impression.So, other than some correction for the obvious right shoulder drop, does anyone have any suggestions? Take in the chest? More waist suppression? Remove some shoulder padding? Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm not sure it's possible to convert the jacket you have into the one you want, at least not economically. Twenty years is a good, long run for a jacket--maybe it's time to retire it. I've grown wary of investing too much in reconstruction alterations. I prefer just to put the money toward a future purchase, rather than trying to recreate past purchases.

To me, it looks like the shoulders and the back of the coat are too wide. But those are the shoulders of a 20 year old coat, and I doubt that adjusting them would be worth the effort. On balance, I'd say that the coat looks pretty good on you, just not as good as those knockout suits you've been showing us lately.

It served it's purpose for twenty years, unless you have a very strong emotional investment in this jacket it's time to set it free. You've posted some nice suits in WAYWT, wear those instead

No alterations can change the bulkiness. I have a thick tweed jacket that fits perfect but looks bulky because of the thick material.

It's too small for you on the belly and rear. Look at the vents. I would say a diet or a new jacket.

I agree with almost everybody who has replied to this thread (especially about the rear vent splaying open). Hey, I wear the same waist size as when I went to college, but that doesn't mean I can wear the same styles. Your body changes over time, and no manner of alterations can make a difference. If you really want to keep the jacket, vow to wear it only with jeans or the most casual of situations.

I also agree with all of the others... hate to be repetitive. The vent is splayed open and the lapels are bowing. The means the jacket is a least a size or more too small for you. I would imagine that the past twenty years have been good to you as they have been for most of us. You should probably let someone who can fit into it better have a shot at it. Sell it.
