What Bow Tie?

Hi Gents,

Long time lurker first-time poster. I'm getting married in a few weeks. Wayhey.

I've had this suit made by a tailor (first time that's ever happened), and I'd planned on having a black bow tie, but I just don't think it's working. And I've been stressing out of my mind trying to find one that would work.

I'll be wearing dark brown shoes. Does anyone have suggestions on a color/style that would really work with this suit? I'd be so grateful.

Sam

For your wedding perhaps you should consider a silver or a silver/light grey tie. For other uses, almost any color tie will work.

The trousers seem much darker than the jacket, though. Are you wearing both parts of the suit in the picture. Also, the jacket's sleeves are much too long and trousers look to be similarly very long. I would recommend another visit to your tailor to correct those issues before your wedding.

I think that's just the lighting in the room. They're the same colour.

Noted on the sleeves, thanks. I'll give light grey a try.

As others have said, the sleeves are too long and black shoes for a black tie outfit.

The bow tie should be of the same silk as the lapels but its your wedding so your choice (or your fiancée's). What is the colour scheme for the event?

When you go back for alterations, make sure you are wearing/taking a proper shirt and shoes so that proper measurements can be taken.

No tee shirt/sneakers pls.

So thanks for the feedback. It's back in the tailors getting the arms adjusted.

This was the actual inspiration and photo I showed the tailor, although ended up choosing a darker material:

If I switched to a dark blue or grey bowtie, are black shoes really still a must?

shoe choice is normally dictated by trouser colour, but it's a dinner jacket so only shiny black will do.

Why not a self-tie bow tie. They're far more elegant than the cheap clip ons. Self tie made from a quality silk, like a charvet or tom ford bow tie. The tom fords aren't self tie but they're pre-tied with a stitch keeping it in place. But, by all means, if you want to look like a high schooler at prom go for a pre tied bow tie.
