What black tie events do you attend?

This is my first post after lurking for a while.

I am trying to justify buying a tuxedo (I think I just really like the idea of it), but I am not sure that I would get enough use out of it. It seems like events that were once black tie-required are slowly disappearing. I am wondering black tie events the other readers of this forum regularly attend.

As a side note, I had a conversation with the bride's father at a wedding last summer about tuxedos. He had purchased his own however, the first two events that he went to that required a tux (his daughters weddings), also required him to wear the same (rental) tux as the groomsmen instead of his own tux that was sitting in the closet. When did the rental tuxedo uniform for groomsmen become the norm?

Wear a tuxedo to event where dress is specified as black tie -- about six charitable fundraising events a year and one or two other parties. I find that if an event is "black tie optional," I don't wear a tuxedo, nor does anyone else.
