Just wrapped up The Means of Ascent. Can't wait for more LBJ shenanigans in Master of the Senate. Will order next week.

Considered re-reasing Barbarians at the Gate but gave up as I generally loathe to re-read books (except A Distant Mirror and Liars Poker).

Started last night. :uhoh:

WTF. 100 pages in and I'm still reading about the history of the senate - I get it the Senate can be slow and ponderous and had too much influence over US government policy. Damn, Robert Caro can be frustrating. I'm spending more time re-reading Barbarians than this book.

This is essentially a series of interviews (statements in conversation really) with some of the key players in entertainment for the past 40-ish years. It's pretty industry specific so if you're not an entertainer, entertainment lawyer/agent or already have an inherent interest it's probably just a bunch of ****-all Hollyweird … but for myself, I'm loving this. Many of the stories are laugh-out-loud funny as hell!

Oh yeah… this one too.

Marcus Aurelius' Meditations and Plato's Republic. Both great so far.

Meditations is a constant source of inspiration. The Republic I still question its politics. Was it a blueprint for Stalinism? Or any form of ultra authoritarian regime?

If you have problems with procrastination or any creative endevaour. I HIGHLY recommend "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. Life changing book.

Seventy pages into this book. My medieval European history kick is still going.

I read the first 4 Parker novels and hit a snag when I realized the library was missing the next 8 books in the series. I got them to order a copy of each and will be binge reading them as soon as they arrive before work resumes in January.

While the novels are not necessarily great reading, they're not bad either and Stark/Westlake seems to have enjoyed writing the series. Sometimes when I'm reading the 3rd or 4th novel in a series, I feel the author has lost interest and churns out more books because they've committed themselves to it (or maybe because it's easier to not write a finale). It hasn't felt like the case yet, although I'm preparing myself that may show once I get near the end of the original Parker novels or into the ones he wrote within the last decade.

Just started this one. Two chapters later, and it's way past when I was going to sleep.
