Getting through the complete works of Oscar Wilde which is quite amusing, even the bleak Dorian Gray is interspersed with amusing mutterings from Lord Henry. The book before this was 'The Unconsoled' by Kazuo Ishiguro which had been sitting around for many years - can't say that I liked it at all, but the reviews were gushing....

I am about half way through: Joseph Ratzinger: Life in the Church and Living Theology: Fundamentals of Ecclesiology by Maximilian Heinrich Heim. It is fairly long (over 500 pages), but is a real page turner (seriously). Ratzinger's (Pope Benedict) ecclesiology is so refreshing and his view of the Church is so different than what has been unfortunately propagated through the Church before and still after Vatican II (clericalsim, seeing the Catholic Church as being an ends to itself, the overabundance of institutionalism, the non-nuanced view of "No salvation outside the Church," the lack of caritas (love) toward your fellow man in the Church, etc). Nothing is necessarily a surprise, since I have read many of his other works, but this book is great because it summarizes all his past works and also uses sources that have not been translated from German, which is nice for us theological philistines who don't know German.

Exactly. NÃ[IMG]mirovsky's elder daughter, Denise, saved a notebook her mother left behind when she was sent to a concentration camp. Not until the late 1990s did she have the courage to read the notebook and discover it was actually 2 short novels.

Murakami's What I talk about when I talk about running

Interesting spin off of one of Carver's short story titles.

I read like 150 pgs. and put it down. Not well-written, not very interesting.

How do you like it thus far? I had it on my wish list but never pulled the trigger.
