Foo Fighters are mediocre. There I said it. Sure, Dave Grohl made invaluable contribution to popular music, but he did so as the drummer of Nirvana. Why does everybody have to pretend that they actually listen to the Foo Fighter albums? Foo Fighters had a couple of tracks to be sure, but most of their output is outdone by a number of pub bands whose names will be lost in the sands of time. I enjoyed this video, however, when it aired on MTV. Couldn't get through it now, but if their output was more like this I'd get it. Or even that Mentos video.

i might agree re: grohl as a singer/frontman... but for instance Songs for the Deaf is a good, interesting rock album... he's a pretty good drummer

Don't know that one but I'll check it out. I think Grohl is really good at a lot of things, just doesn't add up to timeless melodies. I get why you're into Grohl from a musician standpoint, but I think he doesn't have material that people genuinely enjoy for purely aesthetic reasons. It's Grohl as savior/champion of guitar music, Grohl as 'cool dude,' Grohl as anything but great songwriter. Grohl would be great if he was part of a band and wrote 1 track for every album, and contributed ideas to songs. He is still head and shoulders above most, and I'd take his musical ability over mine any day of the week.

I think most people listened to Foo Fighters because "it's the drummer from Nirvana", I know I did. That's similar to getting the job because your dad has been very successful at the company (in my mind, no one has to agree). They do have a few good songs.
