Steve Earle did a record of Guy Clark covers a few years back. He does a fantastic cover of this song, and really reinterpreted it in a way that only Steve Earle can.
Yes, that is a nice cover. It's funny how one's musical knowledge gets shaped - hearing JJW doing L.A. Freeway, and then later Desperadoes is what turned me on to Guy's music. Around the same time I bought a bargain bin copy of TVZ's Flyin' Shoes b/c I liked the cover and fell in love with his music. A few years later Guitar Town came out and I became a Steve Earle fan. Then you finally read a story or hear an interview and suddenly the lightbulb turns on....

Same, although it was Steve Earle who brought me to both TVZ and Guy Clark. Waylon and Willie have long been constants in my playlist though when I decide it's time for a dose of some good old, down home cracker music.
