Don’t Mess With The Trail God Imperial IPA sure fit immediately after a 5.9-mile trail run while cooking dinner on the camp stove…

Something a little special for tonight!

I had the honour of tasting this a few months back at the behest of a friend. I've always been snobby about both blends, and johnnie walker in general. While there may be grains of truth in there about the broader range, this example of their Ghost and Rare series, featuring Port Ellen, is quite simply one of the best whiskies i've ever tasted.

Bright notes of soft fruit, peach, apricot, followed by the slightly salty peatiness suggestive of its port ellen content. It is delightfully smooth, easy to drink and yet at 43.5% stronger than you'd expect from the taste. Huge complexity and a lingering finish.

Couldn’t help it. That advertising just got me hard. Tasty though.

Mai Tai here too. Excuse the mass produced orgeat syrup, hard to find the good stuff here in Asia. Haven't worked up to making my own yet.

Monin is actually my favorite of the non-craft orgeat syrups. I’ve used it plenty and it plays fine in a Mai Tai IMHO. Must admit I do t recall tasting it on it’s own tho.

Mammoth Brewing Epic IPA (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

An old favorite that I used to drink on road trips to Yosemite or the Eastern Sierra. I’m bummed that I didn’t get to eat/drink at the brewery on our trip out west (the wait was too long). But hey, I picked up some of their beers.

From the weekend. Apparently Adam Levine is the frontman for this, which explains the inflated price.
Still, not half bad. Worth having around, methinks.

Gordons and Fever Tree G&T with Angostura Orange Bitters, lime and the Calamansi, which I spoke of previously. Reaffirming the Calamansi truly elevates a G&T to next level. Before I thought it was about 75% perfume, but now I’d say it’s pretty even between nose and palate.

Double Dry Hopped Citra Pale Ale at Upslope Brewing Co (Boulder, CO).

This a taproom-only variation of my favorite local year-round beer, and it’s very good on a hot day. They’re doing a fundraiser for Western Native Trout Initiative, so I had to pop in and get a pint glass.
