Good choice! 18 or 12?
Neither -- just the garden variety. It's rare around here to find anything but the basic Jamesons, Bushmills, or Powers in a bar.

I've always thought of the Martini (or rather, it's progenitor, the Martinez) as the clear spirit mirror of the Manhattan -- gin for the bourbon, dry vermouth for sweet, olive for cherry. Straight gin martinis are all well and good, but all the extra dry malarky gets on my nerves (order a chilled gin with an olive already!), and I should like the Vesper, but I don't, so I thought I'd try a new variant; I present The White Martini. I use the -tini ending as it carries the mantle borne by the Martinez, but uses vodka and white vermouth from the Vesper, but in the proportions of the Manhattan. The White Martini: 2 oz. Vodka 1 oz White Lillet 1/4 oz Maraschino Stir over ice for 25 seconds, strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a generous slice of lemon peel, squeezed over the glass. http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9061/dsc00372mi5.jpg
Huntsman, I very rarely drink coctails but I do find your posts fascinating. Keep them up.
Hey, thanks. Not to indulge in counter praise but I enjoy your beer posts also as I know next to nothing about beer (did not know the Lindemans lambics were to some degree fake, shame on me, I really want a real Kriek now).
I just started into the beer thing myself - about to have a Cantillon Kriek for the first time. All I've had until now in the "craft beer" area are Hoegaarden, Kasteel (Rouge/Triple), Young's Chocolate Stout (I want to try Ommegang's), Ommegang's Three Philosophers, and Lindeman's Framboise.

What's like Hoegaarden, only better? I really like the taste of it compared to most beer. If I recall, skalogre said it was a witbier?
Nice. The Cantillon Kriek is the ****
I just finished my first New Orleans local brew... 16oz of 11% and lots of walking has forced me to switch to a PBR while I finish ny Po-Boy dinner
