I've been thinking to myself, "Self, you're drinking way too much. You gotta cut back for the sake of your wellbeing." And then I open this thread and Piob inspires me to stay the course.

Hemmingways while studying Federal Courts (rocking the Independent and Adequate State Grounds)

1.5 oz White Rum (I love El Dorado 3yr)
0.5 oz Maraschino (as much as I think Leopold is the best, Luxardo does a better job)
0.5 oz Grapefruit Juice
0.5 oz Lime Juice
Splash simple.

Hard shake, strain only with a Hawthorne to leave the shards. Garnish with a smallish wedge of grapefruit.

Actually never had one, but it sounds very delicious and refreshing. Not sure whether I have any white rum left, but if I don't, I'll look out for El Dorado 3. Actually, I think I have some Appleton's, but I strongly dislike it.

I bought that on a lark last weekend for this trip. We were upgraded to this incredible suite at the Four Seasons, 180 degree views, floor to ceiling windows about 12 feet high. Was great to finish each night with a drink and look at the city spread out below us.

I'm having one too. Truly a classic. Also a pretty good test for a bartender. If your bartender doesn't know how to make it, leave the bar and find a bartender who does.

I usually don't drink when studying. But obviously there are exceptions. Today would be one. Had a Carlos Primero with an espresso earlier this evening. Then the TLW. In between a few high-caffeine drinks like espresso or Fritz-kola (a coke from Hamburg with 25mg caffeine per 100ml which also tastes amazing). Given that I'll probably study one or two more hours, I'll likely have another drink soon. I'll keep you updated!

Margarita, of course...... Not a good one as I was out of limes, so used a mix.

Had a Negroni before dinner (naturally). Just finished a Leatherneck:

2 ounces blended whiskey

3/4 ounce blue curaçao

1/2 ounce fresh lime juice


Surprisingly good. Didn't use blue cuarcao, so the color was a little weird, but still tasty. Had a nice smoky note under the orange and lime.
