Hey Roikins, how goes the cherries?

I started some around 5 days ago...1 part sugar syrup to 3 parts Luxardo Maraschino.

Roikins, why didn't your vacuum seal these instead of putting them into the tubes? You must have a pretty good setup in your lab.

Mexican Coca-Cola (made with real sugar, not HFCS)

I don't understand the hype. Just tastes like regular Coke to me. I can detect a very slight difference, and maybe it is slightly better, but really I find the difference to be quite small.

I bought two bottles, so I'll have to add some booze to the next one.

They ended up quite tasty. The Maraschino ones didn't really get good until a week; a very slight and mild bitter aftertaste, but a really good and mellow Maraschino flavor. I can definitely see where sugar will help to sweeten these up. Texture wise, they soften up after the week, being still firm after 3-5 days.

The Violette ones were perfect in 3-7 days, and I would definitely keep them without sugar. I actually think I prefer making these and using them in cocktails over the Maraschino ones. The Violette is a very complimentary to the flavor of the cherries.

I wanted to get a base level for my taste testing, so I went with keeping it simple, especially since this is the type of thing I figure will be good info to pass on to friends that might not have access to anything but a jar. And it was easier to unscrew the caps to take out a cherry for testing each day.

Anyone tried this stuff? I got a little sample bottle at a work party the other day. Don't know what to do with it. [IMG]

Had a rum punch at a bar in NYC last night consisting of a dark rum, a light rum, domaine de canton ginger liqueur, allspice dram (no idea what that is), lime, tangerine juice, angostura and orange bitters. Proportions were unclear, drink was delicious.

Not orthodox, and it might get me shunned by guys like Huntsman, ama, and Roikins, but I have been known to toss a splash or two of this into a DarknStormy.

My own version of iced coffee. Made 3 mocha pots last night. Chilled over night. See me through today, served over 2 or 3 chunks of ice. Little sugar.

No shunning from me! I like my Dark n' Stormy really gingery. I use good ginger beer and often augment it with some ginger syrup. I think I'm going to have one now, thanks for reminding me. [IMG]
