Inspired by the 'What are you buying for FW08' I thought I'd make a thread for SS09.

So, what's up this year?

I plan to buy,

...a new pair of loafers (Tod's, Car shoe?)
...a really nice blue sport jacket by E. Zegna (avarage price for E.Z?)
...some new shirts.
...some more sport jackets
...brown brogue oxfords (Loake 1880?)
...chinos
...Substitute for jeans? I mostly wear jeans, chinos or shorts, I want new options!

What are You buying for spring and summer?

I will try to hold me back for 2009.

Maybe 1 or 2 suits maximum and some smaller stuff, like Pocket squares or ties.

I spent too much on clothing in 2008, so this year, I will have to work on my self restraint.

I'm trying to buy more conservative pieces, or at least more conservative than I did last year.

Especially with pants, last year I bought a whole host of patchwork madras, embroidered seersucker, embroidered chino, etc., and even a few shirts that were similar (patchwork gingham, patchwork seersucker, etc.).

This year, in terms of new purchases, I'm definitely sticking to more solid pieces - solid chinos, solid polos, a few solid cardigans, and some solid oxfords. That's not to say that they can't be bright colors (because they inevitably will be), but just not so...eclectic.

As well, I'm probably going to buy 2-3 pairs of Top-Siders, and 2-3 drivers (not sure from which designer yet. Whatever catches my eye).

That said, I definitely am trying to spend less than last year.

A seersucker suit is on the list. Aside from that I don't really "need" much, but no doubt will buy too much.

I will not be buying that.

Instead I have just bought a waterproof montedoro peacoat, a cashpima cotton/cashmere loro piana fabric Boglioli mainline sportcoat and a chocolate brown caruso sportcoat in a thin wool fabric.

Yes yoox FTW!!! It is obviously not new collection SS but I bought it to wear for this spring summer 09. I'm cheap like dat, yo.

Hmm.. well, so far it's looking like:

A pair of pale, fairly slim-cut chinos for the weekend;
A couple of gingham shirts, in pale blue and white and black and white.
A new tropical weight, navy suit
A new pair of casual sneakers (I really like some of the sneakers that Tod's make; on the other end of the spectrum, I'm thinking some classic Adidas shoes would fit the bill).
A few more henleys (I really have an obscene love of henleys, which are the best casual, Saturday afternoon shirt around, at least in my humble opinion)
A couple new James Perse t-shirts, long and short sleeved
A new pair of Persol aviator sunglasses (which are on the way, as we speak, thanks to forum member HomerJ

Besides the sunglasses, chinos and the sneakers, all of these are wants rather than needs...

Well-made shoes, even if it's just the entry-level RTW of a respectable maker. Laceups, loafers and boots welcome
A summer-weight odd jacket or two, possibly even a shirt jacket
A linen or lightweight cotton suit
A new pair of shorts or two, preferably tailored and with belt loops. Simple and classic
Maybe a Panama - I'd like to explore my options for summer hatwear. I already have a particularly silly fedora, but it's perfect for the beach
Purple pocket square

I am pretty new here, and making changes slowly...starting with shoes...

Just started with Alden shell chukkas and cannot understand why I did not pay attention to footwear long ago.

next stops:
-black dress shoe (would like to find something in Alden that appeals, but the AE Park Avenue seems like such a classic)

-lighter color brown shoe (tan, I'd think)

-light to med gray trousers

suggestions welcome...
