Recently, I saw some suits with what seemed like functional cuff buttons, but on closer inspection, are actually non-functional. These cuffs have button "holes" but have no gaps for buttons to go through. In other words, the buttons are sewn on like normal non-functional cuff buttons.

What cuffs are these called? Faux-functional cuffs?

I don't see why they need to go through the trouble, actually... if they went that far, they might as well add holes.

Also, I have seen a suit with non-functional pockets (yes, pockets.). The positions and shapes of the pockets are indicated by threads, but there are no actual pockets...

Anyway, since the use of a suit's outer pockets are not encouraged (as far as I know), why not have a suit without pockets at all? What is the aesthetic level of such a suit? Brilliant or complete flop (or something in between)?

I'm not sure there is a name.  Yours is as good as any.

They go to the trouble to give it the suit a more expensive look.  Also, it is considerably more trouble to cut and sew a real buttonhole.  It's not just a matter of cutting through the cloth. You have to finish that edge, through two layers of cloth, all the way around.

Are you sure the pockets weren't just closed with basting thread?  I've bough coats on which the pockets were closed, and I had to cut the thread myself.

Some designer has probably already done it.  I wouldn't like it, but others might.

I also have a Jil Sander suit without a breast pocket. I think I remember reading somewhere on this forum or the AA forum about a person who knew a gentleman who used to have all of his bespoke items made without the breast pocket.
